Welcome to the 2016 NJCAA National Tournament.
Seems like just yesterday that I was congratulating Coach Jon Havens and the Richland College Thunderducks on their amazing run to the 2015 NJCAA DIII Men’s Basketball National Championship, but here we are again after another year of exciting NJCAA Division III basketball. This is SUNY Sullivan’s 6th consecutive year hosting the NJCAA DIII Men’s Basketball Tournament and as this amazing tournament moves to a new location in 2017, we hope that everyone that has visited us the past six years truly enjoyed their time here in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of New York.
It is my pleasure to once again welcome to our campus the players, coaches, families, and fans who are joining us from across the country. As I say year after year, this tournament not only showcases great basketball, but provides us all with a good time in reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. From the banquet on Wednesday night, to the moment the newly crowned National Champions cut down the net on Saturday night, this tournament is both a source of excitement and pride for everyone involved at the college. I hope that you all share in our enthusiasm and enjoyment.
Thank you to everyone who has travelled here to take part in this championship – players, coaches, officials, families, friends, and fans. Please make yourselves at home on our campus and in our community. We are here to do anything we can to help you get the most out of your visit. Thank you, also, to our local and regional sponsors, as well as our valued partners through the NJCAA. Without the generosity of these organizations and private donors, the tournament at SUNY Sullivan could not be the success it has been over the years.
And finally, congratulations to the 8 teams who have made it here to compete this year. As a former Coach and winner of this prestigious tournament, I full well understand the kind of hard work, effort, perseverance, excellence and just “a little bit of luck” it takes to get here, and look forward to seeing all of you compete at your highest levels. Best of luck to all of you in your quest for a National Championship!
The tournament committee and I, my staff, and the entire SUNY Sullivan community say welcome or welcome back! Thank you and enjoy the games.
