SUNY Sullivan alum (’12) Cleanthony Early of Pine Bush, New York, was drafted into the NBA in 2014 by the New York Knicks. He was the Knicks first pick of the draft, which took place in the second round. Early is SUNY Sullivan’s all-time leading scorer, having scored 1,452 points in his two-year basketball career with the Generals. At Sullivan he was twice named the National Junior College Athletics Association Division III Player of the Year and was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches Player of the Year. After SUNY Sullivan, he attended Wichita State on a full athletic scholarship, leading the Shockers to the 2013 NCAA Final Four.
“When I went to Sullivan, I didn’t come in as ‘The Man,’ ” Early, who is now in his second year with the Knicks, reflects back. “Eventually it come through work. That can happen anywhere, at any level. I just need to do what I need to do to get where I need to be. It’s a process.”
