The Recreation Leadership: Fitness AAS Program at SUNY Sullivan prepares students to work as certified personal trainers with varied populations in a large variety of settings, including fitness centers, athletic venues and sport-specific training institutes, spas and health clubs, public and private schools, college recreation centers, retirement communities, hotels and condominiums, and resorts and cruise lines. Certified personal trainers provide instruction to both groups and individuals in the basic health-related components of fitness, such as cardiovascular exercise, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition. They may work with clients on personal fitness goals, with athletes on improving performance in key areas, with older adults on a wide range of health and function-based needs, or with children to promote physical activity, motor development, and the adoption of healthy habits. After successfully completing the program, students will be qualified to sit for the National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF) personal training certification exam.
