SUMMARY:Rtusamhāram/Six Seasons Performance
DESCRIPTION:The SUNY Sullivan Theater Arts program is proud to announce performances of Rtusamhāram/Six Seasons.\n  \nAuthors: by Kālidāsa translated by Mani Rao\, adapted for performance by the theater majors at SUNY Sullivan \n\nEnsemble Direction by the Theater Majors at SUNY Sullivan Performed in the Krish Food Mart in Livingston Manor and the Seelig Theatre at SUNY Sullivan. \nMay 4\, 2024\, at 11 a.m. (Krish Food Mart) and May 6\, 2024\, at 10 a.m. in the Seelig Theatre. \nTickets are a suggested donation of $10 to the SUNY Sullivan Theater Arts program/Performing Arts club \nFor Information contact jbarkl@sunysullivan.edu \nRtusamhāram/The Six Seasons/The Gathering of Time synopsis:\nRitusamhara is a lengthy Sanskrit poem or mini-epic credited to Kalidasa. The poem is divided into six cantos\, one for each of the six Indian seasons: grisma (summer)\, varsa/pavas (monsoon/rains)\, sarat (autumn)\, hemanta (cool)\, sisira (winter)\, and vasanta (spring). It is said to be Kalidasa’s first work. The words Ritu (seasons) and sahra (group) are used combined in this context to mean “gathering together” or “group.” Thus\, Ritusamhara has been rendered as Medley of Seasons or Garland of Seasons\, or maybe more appropriately as the “Pageant of the Seasons\,” but it has also been mistranslated as “birth and death” of seasons\, owing to the other meaning of samhara as destruction.

SUMMARY:Spring Theater Production of "Fuenteovejuna/The Sheep Well"
DESCRIPTION:The SUNY Sullivan Theater Arts program is proud to announce performances for Lope deVega’s “Fuenteovejuna/The Sheep Well\,” a revolutionary classical Spanish play adapted and directed by Jessica López-Barkl. The 2023-2024 Theater season explores the theme of identity\, with each play delving deep into the difficult choices characters make as they begin to determine who they truly are. \nThe great Spanish author Lope de Vega (1562–1635) wrote “Fuenteovejuna/The Sheep Well” in 1612 after he was inspired by a historical incident: farmers and peasants of the village of Fuente Ovejuna rose up against a military commander and his soldiers who routinely brutalized and oppressed them. \n“Fuenteovejuna/The Sheep Well” will be performed outdoors at the SUNY Sullivan Labyrinth on April 27\, May 1\, and May 3 at 6 p.m.\, and May 5 at 2 p.m. \nTickets are a suggested donation of $10 to the SUNY Sullivan Theater Arts program/Performing Arts club. For more information\, contact Jessica López-Barkl at jbarkl@sunysullivan.edu. \nAbout SUNY Sullivan \nSUNY Sullivan is the leader of innovative higher education and a catalyst for workforce development throughout the Sullivan Catskills and beyond. SUMMARY:Spring Theater Production of "Fairview"
DESCRIPTION:The SUNY Sullivan Theater Arts program is proud to announce performances for Jack Sibblies Drury’s “Fairview\,” a 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning piece directed by Nick López. The 2023-2024 Theater season explores the theme of identity\, with each play delving deep into the difficult choices characters make as they begin to determine who they truly are. \n“Fairview” adheres to this theme as an examination of families\, drama\, family dramas\, and the insidiousness of white supremacy. Winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize\, which The New York Times called “…dazzling and ruthless…one of the most exquisitely and systematically arranged ambushes of an unsuspecting audience in years…’Fairview’ is a series of perspective-altering surprises.” \n“Fairview” will be presented in the Seelig Theatre on April 26\, May 2\, and May 4 at 8 p.m.\, and on April 28 at 2 p.m. \nTickets are a suggested donation of $10 to the SUNY Sullivan Theater Arts program/Performing Arts club. For more information\, contact Jessica López-Barkl at jbarkl@sunysullivan.edu.
