Generals Basketball Players Earn Top Honors

Three members of the SUNY Sullivan Men’s Basketball Team were selected for the Mid-Hudson Conference First Team, an honor reserved for the best players in the Conference, which encompasses Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester Counties.

In addition to making the Mid-Hudson Conference First Team, one of the players earned a spot on First Team Region XV, and another received an honorable mention for the same. NJCAA’s Region XV includes 11 colleges, stretching from the Mid-Hudson Valley to New York City and Long Island.

Overall, the Generals finished first in the Mid-Hudson Conference, and second to Suffolk in NJCAA’s Region XV, which determined the team that would compete in the National Championships beginning tomorrow.

The Players

Goree Venable

Having averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game, 6’7″ Goree Venable was named to both the Mid-Hudson Conference and Region XV First Teams. He was also named to the Region XV All-Tournament Team. He is currently being courted by a number of Division 1 and Division 2 colleges.

Kerome Grant

A 6’5″ sophomore from Queens, Kerome Grant averaged 11 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. He was named a Region XV Honorable Mention, and was named to the Mid-Hudson Conference First Team. Several Division 2 and Division 3 teams are trying to recruit him.

Jamari Lewis

With 13.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists averaged per game, freshman Jamari Lewis is the only one of the trio named to the Mid-Hudson Conference First Team who will be returning to Sullivan for the next season, when the Generals will be moved from Division 3 to Division 2. He stand 5’8″ and hails from Long Island.
