The Vault: An Anthology of Student Writing
Overview
The Writing Program publishes an anthology of student writing each academic year. The anthology—called The Vault—showcases exceptional writing created in our courses, offers models for current students, and creates a potential teaching tool for instructors. An Editorial Committee of writing instructors selects the pieces for publication. Additionally, The Vault is illustrated and laid out by SUNY Sullivan Graphic Arts students and Mark Lawrence, a professor in the Graphic Arts department.
Procedure
Instructors choose worthy essays, poems, or stories from their classes and, with the permission of the student, submit them for consideration to the Editorial Committee. Instructors must note that offering or refusing to offer submissions will not affect a student’s grade in a course. To submit student work for possible publication in The Vault, students and instructors follow these steps:
- Instructors select exceptional pieces of writing and ask students to revise, if necessary, prior to submission.
- Students complete a Permission Form.
- Students send an electronic copy of the final draft to Lynne Crockett or Cindy Linden. (NOTE: The essays must be submitted electronically.) Students also should submit paper or electronic permission forms to Professors Crockett or Linden (office F117).
