Relief Grants through the Coronavirus Aid, and Economic Security (CARES) Act

SUNY Sullivan acknowledges an authorized representative of the institution has signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

SUNY Sullivan received $1,038,982 from the Department of Education pursuant to the Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

SUNY Sullivan has distributed $517,320 of $519,491 under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of 1/13/2021

SUNY Sullivan determined 885 students during Round 1, and 778 students under Round 2 at the institution were eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

563 students received an Emergency Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act (Round 1) as of 11/11/2020. An additional 778 students (Round 2) received funding in December 2020.

Round 2:

Funding for Round two was sent to all eligible students and dispensed with the application.  Round two established two grant levels:

All eligible students received $240; eligible students with a $0 EFC received an additional $50.

Round 1:

SUNY Sullivan, in Round 1, prioritized awarding of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to its students in the following categories. Most students were eligible for funding in multiple categories:

*Block grant totals will be the sum of all the categories under which a student qualifies.

Case Based Funding

Additional funds may be available to some students based on costs incurred as a consequence of the disruption of campus operations this spring. A student’s answers on the grant application will help the college identify students eligible for additional funds.

Under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, students received awards ranging from $300 to $675.

All students will be notified of eligibility, requirements, and application availability by SUNY Sullivan email.

The application will require students to certify and attest that they have or will incur allowable expenses of food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, childcare, and/or transportation as a result of the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus.
