SUNY Sullivan Presidential Scholars Program

Description: Introduced in 2012, SUNY Sullivan’s Presidential Scholars program makes a college education more accessible and more affordable for high-achieving students graduating from Sullivan County high schools. Students with a minimum overall grade average of 90 are eligible to receive the scholarship.

Amount of Scholarship: Full Tuition & Fees after State Aid and PELL and any other SCCC Foundation scholarships have been awarded

Awarded by: SCCC Foundation Scholarship Fund & SUNY Sullivan Awarded prior to the Fall semester


Eligibility and Criteria:

  1. Presidential Scholars funds are awarded to graduates of Sullivan County schools who have a minimum overall grade point average of 90 and are planning to attend SUNY Sullivan full-time for Fall. Final grades must be reported through an official high school transcript.
  2. Presidential Scholars funds cover tuition and fees, less PELL and State Aid and any other SUNY Sullivan Foundation scholarships, offering a minimum award of $300 per semester.
  3. Recipients must be in the graduating class preceding the start of their first Fall semester of study.
  4. Recipients MUST apply for financial aid.
  5. The Presidential Scholars award is a maximum continuous two-year scholarship for the Fall and Spring semesters. No stopouts in study are permitted.
  6. After the first year, continuation as a Presidential Scholar is based upon the achievement of an overall 3.25 GPA for the first year of study.

Guidelines for Applying for a Foundation Scholarship

Use the following guidelines when applying for a Sullivan County Community College Foundation Scholarship:

Review the criteria for the scholarship(s) that you are applying for.

Follow the specific instructions for each scholarship.

Complete the application form for each scholarship.

Obtain and submit all the necessary information required (i.e. transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc.) 

You must apply for financial aid to be eligible for certain scholarship awards. Financial aid includes FAFSA,NYS TAP, and/or NYS Jose Peralta Dream Act.

Submit the required essay. The 500-word typed essay should focus on the following, unless otherwise noted: Describe your goals and how Sullivan County Community College will play a part in helping you achieve these goals.

All scholarship application deadlines are July 15, unless otherwise noted.

Completed applications must be in the SUNY Sullivan Office of Financial Aid, 112 College Road, Loch Sheldrake, NY 12759 or finaid@sunysullivan.edu by deadline.

Foundation Scholarship Application


BUSINESS

Academy of Finance College Award

Description: To assist a June graduate of either Monticello or Pine Bush High School who was a member of the Academy of Finances

Amount of Scholarship: $1,000 for two years. Rest will receive the second $1,000 for his/her sophomore year at SCCC provided that he/she is in good academic standing with a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshmen from Monticello or Pine Bush schools

Additional Information: Submit a 250-word essay on “How the Academy of Finance has positively affected me.” Letter of recommendation from his/her Academy of Finance advisor. 

SCCC Career Program Scholarship in Business 

Description: To assist a first-time, full-time student.

Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,000.

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshmen. Must be a first-time student at SCCC enrolled full time, planning to pursue a degree in a Business program.

Additional Information: Two letters of recommendation. Submit a 500-word essay describing any related work experience and reasons for selecting the Business program. 

Trevor Loughlin Memorial Scholarship 

Description: To assist a first-time, full-time student who is from Sullivan County Amount of Scholarship: $500

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshmen who are from Sullivan County. Enrolled full time, planning to pursue a degree in a Business Administration.

Additional Information: Submit 250 word essay on why you are seeking a degree in Business Administration. GPA of 85 or 3.0 or higher. Scholarship can be used to cover tuition, fees and educational expenses at SCCC.


GRAPHIC DESIGN, COMMUNICATIONS & MEDIA ARTS

SCCC BOCES Career Program Scholarship in Communications

Description: To assist a first-time, full-time BOCES student.

Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,000

Who is Eligible: Incoming freshman. Must be a first-time student at SCCC enrolled full time, planning to pursue a degree in the Communications/Media Arts Program.

Additional Information: Submit an audio or video tape of your work, or a script that demonstrates your talent
in the field of Communications. Submit a 500-word essay explaining why you selected this curriculum, what prompted your interest and what your career plans are in this or a related field. 

SCCC BOCES Career Program Scholarship in Computer Graphics/Graphic Design

Description: To assist a first-time full-time BOCES student.

Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,000

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshmen. Must be a first- time student at SCCC enrolled full time, planning to pursue a degree in Computer Graphics/Graphic Design.

Additional Information: Submit at least ten examples of your work (digital attachments in JPG or PDF format) including five drawings and five design pieces. A 500- word essay explaining why you selected this curriculum, what prompted your interest and what your career plans are in this field.


CULINARY ARTS

Ronald Mann Memorial Scholarship

Description: To assist a Port Jervis High School graduate

Amount of Scholarship: $1,000

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshman who is a Port Jervis High School graduate pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts

Additional Information: The Guidance Department at Port Jervis High School will select the winner.

Joyce M. Guley Locks Memorial Scholarship 

Description: To assist students from the Slovak Republic or who are of Slovak Republic descent who are enrolled in either Allied Health/Nursing or Culinary Arts

Amount of Scholarship: $300

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshman or returning students

Additional Information: Must show proof of heritage through birth certificate, marriage certificate, church records, etc. Submit the required essay (details in Foundation Scholarship Guidelines above).


EARLY CHILDHOOD

SCCC BOCES Career Program Scholarship in Early Childhood

Description: To assist a first-time, full-time BOCES student.

Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1000

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshmen who are first-time students at SCCC enrolled full time, and planning to pursue a degree in Early Childhood

Additional Information: Submit a one-page resume identifying your education, grade point average, employment experience and interests. Include specific note of paid and unpaid experience with young children. Submit a 500-word essay explaining why your selected your program of choice, what prompted your interest, and what your career plans are in this or a related field.


LIBERAL ARTS

Edith Haines and James Hughes Scholarship 

Description: To assist a full-time student in the Liberal Arts curriculum

Amount of Scholarship: $750 per semester

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshmen or returning students. Must maintain a 3.25 grade point average to receive the scholarship for a second semester

NURSING

Joyce M. Guley Locks Memorial Scholarship

Description: To assist students from the Slovak Republic or who are of Slovak Republic descent who are enrolled in either Allied Health/Nursing or Culinary Arts

Amount of Scholarship: $300
Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshman or returning students

Rose Seelig Nursing Scholarship

Description: To assist Sullivan County residents who are enrolled in the SCCC Nursing program 

Amount of Scholarship: $1,000

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshman and Returning students

Additional Information: Submit a 500-word essay describing your participation in high school or college activities (please list in essay).

Agnes & John Jost Nursing Scholarship 

Description: To assist Sullivan County residents who are enrolled in the SCCC Nursing program 

Amount of Scholarship: $1,000

Who is Eligible: Returning students. You must be entering your second year in the Nursing Program at the time of application. Minimum 3.0 GPA

Additional Information: Must submit two letters of recommendation with application and the required essay (details in Foundation Scholarship Guidelines above).

Grover M. Hermann Nursing Scholarship 

Description: To assist Sullivan County residents who are enrolled in the SCCC Nursing program

Amount of Scholarship: $1,000

Who is Eligible: Incoming Freshman and returning students. Minimum 2.5 GPA for returning students. Overall high school average will be considered for first-semester students.

Additional Information: Submit a 500-word essay describing participation in high school or college activities and/or civic achievements (please list in essay).


SCIENCE & MATH

Jack Orth Memorial Basha Kill Area Association Scholarship

Description: To assist a full-time student pursuing an education in Environmental Science or Green Building Technology

Amount of Scholarship: $500

Who is Eligible: Returning, full-time students with 30 credits and above a 3.0 GPA.

Additional Information: One letter of recommendation from a high school teacher/advisor, college faculty member or a community member. Submit one of the following: A 500- word essay on what your ultimate career goal
in science is and why you are pursuing this goal, OR a presentation with the details of an environmental project that you have completed, OR the plans for a project that you would like to complete.


GREEN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY

Charles W. Lewis, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Description: To assist a full-time Green Building Technology student.

Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,000

Who is Eligible: Full-time students, either incoming
freshman or returning students

Additional Information: Submit a 250 word essay on why you are seeking a degree in either Green Building Technology. Scholarship can be used to cover tuition, fees and educational expenses at SCCC.


GENERAL

Esthyr Mintz Flanagan Scholarship 

Description: To assist a student from the Fallsburg or Monticello School District who has registered to attend SCCC and who shows financial need

Amount of Scholarship: Up to $500 

Who is Eligible: Incoming freshmen

Additional Information: Submit the required essay (details in Foundation Scholarship Guidelines above).

Grover M. Hermann Memorial General Scholarship 

Description: To assist a Sullivan County resident who demonstrates participation in high school or college activities and civic achievements

Amount of Scholarship: $500

Who is Eligible: Incoming or returning students

Additional Information: Returning students must be in good academic standing and making satisfactory progress with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Incoming students’ overall average will be taken into consideration. A 500-word essay which must include participation in extra-curricular activities and any civic achievements received. Submit letters of recommendation from high school or SCCC faculty. 

Lazare and Charlotte Kaplan Foundation 

Description: To assist Sullivan County residents who are attending or planning to attend SCCC and who demonstrate financial need

Amount of Scholarship: $500 -$1,000

Who is Eligible: Incoming or returning students. Must be a resident of Sullivan County

Additional Information: Preference is given to Livingston Manor and Roscoe residents. Apply at Livingston Manor High School or Roscoe High School’s counseling office. Must demonstrate financial need. 

Sean T. Hanoffee Memorial Scholarship 

Description: To assist a student in their final semester at SCCC, who has already been accepted to a 4 year institution

Amount of Scholarship: $500 -$1,000

Who is Eligible: To assist a student in their final semester at SCCC, who has already been accepted to a 4 year institution.

Additional Information: Student must have a minimum 2.3 career GPA.

Dean Joseph Isadore Scholarship 

Description: To assist a continuing SUNY Sullivan student

Amount of Scholarship: $300

Who is Eligible: Returning student who has demonstrated leadership in their tenure at SUNY Sullivan and has completed 30 credits with a minimun 3.0 GPA.

Additional Information: A) 250 word essay detailing the level of involvement and accomplishments, OR B) a packet which includes SUNY Sullivan club/organization minutes, overviews of projects and/or events, news articles, etc. AND/OR a 100-word essay outlining his/her involvement at SUNY Sullivan.

John Bonacic Scholarship

Description: To assist Sullivan, Orange, Ulster or Delaware County residents who are attending or planning to attend SCCC

Amount of Scholarship: $1,000

Who is Eligible: Students who participate in student government or volunteer with community service organizations.

Additional Information: Must be nominated by SUNY Sullivan Faculty or Staff 

Sullivan Renaissance Scholarship

Description: To assist Sullivan County residents who are attending or planning to attend SCCC

Amount of Scholarship: $1,500 for full-time; up to $750 for part-time

Who is Eligible: Applicant must be involved in the Sullivan Renaissance project in his/her community.

Additional Information: Applicant must submit one of the following: a 500-word typed essay on “How have I, as a member of my community, been part of Sullivan Renaissance,” or a photographic portfolio or a video of your participation in the project. Either format should include a brief bio of the applicant and a letter of recommendation from Renaissance Group.


PHYSICAL EDUCATION/SPECIAL EDUCATION

Iris J. Stedener Charitable Trust

Description: To assist a full-time student pursuing an education in Physical Education, Special Education

Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,500

Who is Eligible: Incoming or returning students who show unmet needs

Additional Information: 500 word Essay why they have the desire to go into education, physical education or special education.
