SUNY Sullivan Participating in Excelsior Scholarship ProgramShare on Twitter!
“We saw almost three dozen applications in the first two days of the application portal opening,” said Jay Quaintance, Acting President. “Our Financial Aid Office has been preparing to assist current and prospective students with the Excelsior application,” he added.
Recipients of the Excelsior Scholarship program are eligible to receive free tuition of up to $5,500 or actual tuition this coming year, whichever is less, after other institutional aid is applied. The family income threshold for this year is $100,000. Applicants must also attend a SUNY or CUNY college full time, and be enrolled in an undergraduate program.
The program, administered by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC), has set an application deadline of July 21.
“If students haven’t already applied for financial aid via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, they should do so immediately as this is a requirement of the Excelsior program,” said Brandon Gilliland, SUNY Sullivan’s Director of Financial Aid. “Students must submit their FAFSA and TAP applications prior to applying for the Excelsior scholarship,” he added.
The FAFSA application take approximately three days to be processed. Once the FAFSA is processed, each student must download his/her Student Aid Report (SAR) and then upload that into the Excelsior application.
Gilliland adds that students who studied at SUNY Sullivan for the 2016-17 year and plan to return, or students who plan to transfer into the college, must submit unofficial college transcript(s) with the Excelsior application, along with their SAR.
Students and their families can find out more information by visiting SUNY Sullivan’s website at www.sunysullivan.edu or the HESC site at www.hesc.ny.gov. Fall classes begin at SUNY Sullivan on August 28.
