SUNY Sullivan Unveils Fall Community Cooking Classes

Friday nights were never so YUM! Join us this fall for a fun-filled experience with classes taught by Chef Mary Magnetico! In these sessions YOU become the chef!

These classes will provide the novice (and not-so-novice) home cook with hands-on participation in the preparation of mouth-watering dishes–ingredients are provided for all classes. Students will eat what they cook. Clean up is part of the instruction. Materials needed for each class: apron (optional), a paring knife, and an 8-inch chef’s knife. Minimum 8 students to run class.

Each class is $45.00 per person per class ($40.00 for seniors) or $130 for three classes. SUNY Sullivan students are FREE with a valid ID. All classes take place on campus in room H028 (SUNY Sullivan Culinary Kitchen) from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, except for the Kids class on November 10th, which is 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

The Instructor

Chef Mary Magnetico is a classically-trained Chef, graduating from SUNY Sullivan’s Professional Chef Program with High Honors in 2014. SUNY Sullivan taught Chef Mary the skills necessary to start up and maintain a food service business, in addition to making amazing desserts and other baked goods! She is the owner of Chestnut Creek Baked Goods in Grahamsville.

The Greek Kitchen

Cost: $45.00 per person / $40 seniors

Opa! Take your taste buds to the gorgeous Greek Islands! In this class learn an assortment of Mediterranean favorites. You’ll learn the unique Greek methods working with Greek cheese, bulgur, sometimes-tricky Phyllo dough, olives, and an assortment of other authentic ingredients. Enjoy your creations at the end of this class! Minimum of 8 participants.

Asian Cooking Class!

Join us for this all-inclusive class! In this class learn how to cook a fabulous Asian dinner in one of SUNY Sullivan’s culinary kitchens with tons of assistance from Chef Mary! Enjoy your hard work by dining on your masterpieces and sipping special saki’s chosen by your chef! Make this evening a celebration! This class will focus on “Asian foods with flair”! 21 and over if you plan to partake in the spirit portion of this event. Minimum of 8 participants.

Knife Skills 101

Join Chef Mary for an instructional class on how to perform basic cutting and preparation techniques. Learn culinary knife skills that will guide you toward creating delicious meals. This class is designed to help you cook safer and more efficiently in your home kitchen. Minimum of 8 participants.

Farm to Table: Vegetarian Delight

Vegetarianism and Veganism are evolving trends in today’s food world. With that said, many extremely tasty recipes have come out of this practice. In this class learn how to source and use alternative foods that provide great taste, healthy choices and other protein options. As always, come hungry as you will eat what you create. Minimum of 8 participants.

Kids: Way Cool Cooking Class

In this class your little chef will have the opportunity to make (from scratch) several favorite American comfort food dishes such as mac and cheese and more. Students will eat what they make and go home with recipes and pro chef hats! Minimum 8 kids for this class to run.

Adult desserts are all the rage! Whether incorporating rosé, Kahlua, whiskey, champagne, or tequila as essential ingredients, Chef Mary will tantalize your taste buds with a few fabulous new desserts that your guests will be toasting too! Get ready for some boozy desserts! 21 and older to participate. Minimum of 8 participants.
