NYS Education Department-Approved Program to Prepare Trainees for a Rewarding Career in Healthcare
SUNY Sullivan and the Center for Workforce Development announce a new Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Training Program, offering Sullivan County residents the opportunity to launch a fulfilling healthcare career at no cost. This intensive 10-week program is designed to equip individuals with the essential knowledge and hands-on experience needed to provide compassionate care in various healthcare settings, directly addressing the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals in the region.
Classroom instruction begins on Sept. 8, 2025, and concludes on Nov. 19, 2025. Classes are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Clinical rotations commence on Sept. 22, 2025, and run through Oct. 20, 2025. These hands-on sessions take place Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing practical experience in healthcare settings.
The comprehensive program provides practical skills in patient care, including personal hygiene, mobility assistance, and nutrition, all under the direct supervision of licensed nurses. Students will benefit from a blend of classroom learning and vital supervised clinical rotations. Upon successful completion, participants will be qualified to sit for the New York State certification exam for Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs).

To be eligible for this no-cost training, applicants must meet specific criteria. All prospective students are required to be Sullivan County residents and at least 18 years old, holding either a high school diploma or GED. Successful candidates must also pass a comprehensive background check, fingerprinting and drug test. Furthermore, a valid New York State driver’s license and reliable transportation are mandatory. Upon program completion, participants must be willing, ready and able to commit to working up to 40 hours per week.
