VETERAN STUDENTS SERVICES

VETERAN STUDENTS SERVICES

SUNY Sullivan welcomes students who are currently serving or who have served in one of the branches of the United States Armed Forces, and we thank you for your service.

Our faculty and staff look forward to supporting you in your educational goals here at SUNY Sullivan. As an institution that is approved under the Veterans Educational Assistance Act (GI Bill), we want to help you maximize your benefits.

SUNY Sullivan is proud to support its veterans and serving students, who can enjoy the Battle Buddy Room in the G building. Some of our veteran students are available throughout the week to answer students’ questions on applying for VA benefits, the GI Bill, and how to be a member of SUNY Sullivan’s veterans community.

Battle Buddy Room (Room G111)

With couches, a coffee maker, a refrigerator, computers, and more, our Battle Buddy Room is a lounge where veterans have a safe space to do work and relax.

Veterans Club

If interested in joining the Veterans Club, contact Professor Eiler at reiler@sunysullivan.edu.

SUNY Sullivan will allow any individual who is entitled to educational assistance under Chapter 31, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, or Chapter 33, Post 9/11 GI Bill to attend a course of education for up to 90 days from the date the beneficiary provides one of the following:

  • Certificate of Eligibility
  • Statement of Benefits obtained from the Department of Veteran Affairs’ website
  • eBenefits
  • Valid VA Form 28-1905
  • Other related approved military affiliated educational benefit’s verification document

This allows a student to attend the course(s) until disbursement of payment to the institution.

In accordance with the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018, SUNY Sullivan will not impose a penalty (e.g. late fees, loss of access to Brightspace, meal place, etc), additional cost, or require the beneficiary to borrow additional funds to cover tuition and fees due to late payment from the Department of Veteran Affairs.

The Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 requires educational institutions to make certain disclosures to students using federal military and/or VA educational benefits.
