Returning Students

Returning Students

We welcome back students who have attended SUNY Sullivan in the past and wish to return to complete their education.

You are considered a “returning student” if you attended SUNY Sullivan as a degree-seeking student at some point in the past and have had a break of more than one semester. Students who applied but never enrolled in classes, or who were enrolled as non-matriculated students (but now wish to apply as degree-seeking students), should reapply as “freshman” (if you've never attended any college) or “transfer students” (if you've previously enrolled at another college or institution).

Returning students should apply using the SUNY Sullivan application, found on the My SUNY Sullivan portal. You should refer to our Admissions Policies for information regarding the admissions process, as well as the Transfer Student page if you have taken any other college courses since attending SUNY Sullivan.

Returning students may need to re-take placement testing, depending on how long you have been away from SUNY Sullivan. You can contact the Learning Center for more information once you have been admitted to SUNY Sullivan.

Depending on your previous academic standing at SUNY Sullivan, you may need to appeal to receive financial aid, as you may be ineligible for aid. All returning students should contact Financial Aid as soon as possible to determine whether they are eligible for financial aid.

Contact Academic Advising for more information on the appeals process. Please note that this process has specific deadlines that must be followed for each semester of enrollment.

Students who are ineligible for aid are still welcome to apply and enroll for classes, but should note that they are responsible to pay for any and all college expenses and may only return as part-time students. Part-time students may only enroll in eleven (11) credits or less.

Students who are unsure about their previous academic standing should contact the Office of Registration Services for more information.

We strongly encourage you to apply for financial aid as soon as you start your application to ensure that you will have the aid you need.

Once you are admitted, there are Next Steps to Becoming a General that you’ll also need to complete.
