New facility expands free access to digital literacy, workforce training, career readiness for Sullivan County residents
SUNY Sullivan celebrated a major milestone on Thursday, Aug. 28 with the grand opening and ribbon cutting of its new Advanced Technology Training and Information Networking (ATTAIN) Lab, the first SUNY ATTAIN Lab located on a community college campus in New York State.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together SUNY leaders, local officials, community partners, and students to mark the launch of this state-of-the-art resource. The ATTAIN Lab is part of a statewide initiative led by the State University of New York’s University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (UCAWD), with support from the New York State Legislature.
SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. said, “SUNY’s ATTAIN Labs provide an essential service to communities throughout New York State by giving students and community members the opportunity to gain valuable computer skills while also working to advance their careers and education. Congratulations to SUNY Sullivan on the grand opening of their new ATTAIN Lab, which will help support all Sullivan County residents, including SUNY Sullivan students, seeking to boost their existing skills or develop new ones.”
“Today we’re opening the doors to a lab and, more importantly, to opportunities,” said President of SUNY Sullivan, Dr. David Potash. “The ATTAIN Lab will help our neighbors gain the digital and professional skills that lead to jobs, careers, and brighter futures. It is a tremendous step forward for our campus and our community.”
Distinguished guests included SUNY Vice Chancellor of Workforce Development and Upward Mobility Christopher White, Deputy COO and Executive Director of the SUNY Black Leadership Institute Tamara Frazier, and Associate Provost and Director of UCAWD Lisa Jackson. Each underscored SUNY’s commitment to expanding digital access and workforce readiness across New York.
Following the ribbon cutting, attendees toured the new facility and watched live demonstrations led by SUNY Sullivan ATTAIN Lab Coordinator Lori Boyd, highlighting how the lab’s free resources will empower local residents.
