Disability Resource Coach

The part-time Disability Resource Coach to enhance academic support services for students with disabilities. This role focuses on fostering a smooth transition to college, determining and implementing accommodations, promoting the use of assistive technology, and supporting student success through individualized academic coaching and outreach. The Disability Resource Coach plays a key role in improving the retention and persistence of disabled students by promoting access, inclusion, and independence in academic settings.

This is a part-time, grant-funded position that reports to the Dean of Student Development Services. The position is scheduled for 25 hours per week for 36 weeks per year and is off during the summer months.

Required Qualifications:

  • College background required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Proficiency and comfort with learning and using new technology
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse student population across a range of abilities and academic preparedness
  • Organized, with demonstrated skills in record-keeping and time management
  • Commitment to equitable and inclusive support for students with disabilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities in educational or support roles
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies such as Glean, Learning Ally, screen readers, and note-taking software
  • Knowledge of the accommodation determination process in higher education
  • Experience with disability services, accessibility coordination, or student support services
  • Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and universal design for learning (UDL) principles

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to engage and support students with disabilities in a friendly, respectful, and person-centered manner
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn assistive technology and provide one-on-one or small group training
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and departments to promote accessible learning environments
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and lived experiences
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and disability rights laws

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate workshops to support students’ transition to college and promote awareness of disability services and available assistive technologies
  • Conduct outreach to students with disabilities, assist with intake interviews, and support the accommodation determination process
  • Provide individualized training on assistive technology tools and applications
  • Support students in developing academic and study strategies tailored to their accommodation needs
  • Assist with updating website content and creating digital and print materials to promote disability resources and services
  • Support proctoring of exams and student use of assistive technology for testing accommodations
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to deliver training and guidance on accessibility and inclusive teaching practices
  • Collect data and contribute to analysis and reporting for institutional and grant-related outcomes

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a professional office and academic environment on campus
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods and navigate various campus buildings to meet with students
  • May involve occasional evening hours based on student availability and workshop scheduling
  • Must be able to transport and demonstrate use of assistive technology devices and materials
  • Reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with ADA standards to perform essential job functions
