ELL Professional Tutor

The part-time ELL Professional Tutor will provide English Language Learner (ELL) support to non-English speaking students. This individual will work in the College’s One Stop Tutoring Center and, when needed, provide in-class support. The ELL Professional Tutor will collaborate with faculty and staff to assist students in improving their English language skills to support academic success and engagement. This position will report to the point of contact for the Writer’s Lounge.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of teaching or tutoring experience
  • Certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA)
  • English language fluency
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated cultural competence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Familiarity with language acquisition strategies and assessment tools
  • Experience supporting students in both individual and group settings
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to support students with varied levels of English proficiency
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with a diverse student population
  • Adaptability to work in one-on-one and classroom settings
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to address student needs
  • Cultural humility and awareness in working with multilingual learners

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic support to ELL students in the One Stop Tutoring Center, including walk-ins and faculty/staff referrals
  • Assist faculty by offering in-class language support when appropriate
  • Develop and adapt tutoring strategies based on student language proficiency levels
  • Help students build vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills needed for coursework
  • Maintain tutoring session records and contribute to student progress tracking

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in an academic environment, including the Tutoring Center and classrooms
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods
  • May involve occasional movement around campus to meet with students and faculty
  • Flexible scheduling, including possible evenings, based on student needs

SALARY & APPLICATION
