Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. — July 29, 2024 — SUNY Sullivan is offering two new cannabis-related microcredentials during its Fall 2024 semester: CannaBusiness Management and CannaBusiness Marketing and Sales. These CannaBusiness programs will provide students with basic management, marketing, and sales skills needed for entry-level operations in the cannabis industry.
Through the CannaBusiness Management microcredential, students will gain invaluable experience improving their leadership, management, and problem-solving skills while learning how to develop a business plan for a cannabis-related venture. The CannaBusiness Management microcredential credits earned can be applied to multiple SUNY Sullivan degree programs, including Business Administration AAS, Business Administration — Marketing AAS, Business Accounting AAS, and Hospitality & Tourism Management AAS. Students will receive a Cannabis Retail badge upon completion of the program.
The CannaBusiness Marketing and Sales microcredential will provide students with skills to develop a marketing and advertising plan for a cannabis-related business. The CannaBusiness Marketing and Sales microcredential is stackable with SUNY Sullivan’s Business Administration AAS and Business Administration — Marketing AAS degrees. Students will earn a Cannabis Marketing & Sales badge upon completion of the program.
According to the New York State Cannabis Control Board, the state’s cannabis industry saw over $137 million in retail sales in 2023. There are currently 127 adult-use cannabis dispensaries across New York State, with more opening every month. On a local scale, the first licensed adult-use cannabis dispensary in Sullivan County—”Platinum Leaf”—opened in Rock Hill, New York in April, 2024.
