SUNY Sullivan’s Educational Opportunity Program is an academic support program for New York State residents who aim to reach their full potential.
EOP provides academic support and supplemental financial support to first-time, full-time students who show promise. The program is designed to help foster confidence and motivate students toward success.
EOP provides academic and financial support to help you succeed at SUNY Sullivan.
As an EOP student, you’ll get proven, tailored support services to help you enroll and succeed in college, including:
- Hands-on academic and career advising, tutoring, and personal counseling to support you from enrollment through graduation
- Modest financial support to help close the gaps for things like textbooks and supplies
- Individualized and Group Tutoring
- Access to ongoing Student Success Workshops
- Access to our Summer Bridge Program, a pre-freshman summer program to help you transition to college life
- Ability to transfer to any EOP/HEOP/SEEK Program at a 4-year college
- A supportive, proud, and loyal community of fellow EOP students and alumni
EOP Eligibility
If you would like to be considered for admission to EOP, please review the residential, academic, and income eligibility criteria below. If you meet the criteria, please proceed to the the steps outlined lower in this page. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at eop@sunysullivan.edu.
- NYS resident for 12 months prior to enrollment
- Resides in NYS at the time of application and lived in NYS for the last 2 terms of high school
- NYS resident when he/she entered military service, Vista, or the Peace Corps and re-established NYS residence within 6 months after completing their terms of service
- Earned HS diploma or equivalent
- GPA 70 - 85
- Enroll as full-time student
- Transfer from other EOP, HEOP, or SEEK

INCOME GUIDELINES DO NOT APPLY IF:
- The student's family is the recipient of Family Assistance or Safety Net payments through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance; or through a county Department of Social Services; or Family Day Care payments through the New York State Office of Children and Family Assistance;
- The student is in foster care as established by the court; or
- The student is a ward of the state or county.
First generation students are welcome and strongly encouraged to apply.
Summer Program Requirements
- Required to attend the Pre-Freshman Summer Program
- Required to take 3 college credits
- Must participate in tutoring and academic counseling
- Must attend all workshops
NOTE: The program runs for four weeks Monday-Thursday, July 14-Aug. 7.
Winter Bridge Requirements
- Those starting in Spring 2025 must attend the Pre-Freshman Winter Bridge Program.
- Required to complete assignments and attend all workshops.
- Must participate in tutoring and academic counseling.
- Note: The program runs for 2 weeks Tuesday - Friday, Jan 7 - Jan 17. The first week (Jan 7 - Jan 10) will be virtual and the second week (Jan 14 - Jan 17) will be on campus. Move in Day for students living on campus will be Jan 13th.

EOP APPLICATION PROCESS
STEP 1
Complete EOP Application
Complete this application in addition to the general application. If you have not applied to SUNY Sullivan please do so here.
Students must apply for EOP by January 2nd if they plan to attend in Spring 2025 or by July 7 if they plan to attend in Fall 2025.
The mandatory pre-freshman winter bridge program begins January 7.
The mandatory pre-freshman summer program begins July 14.
STEP 3
Receive an Invitation for an Interview
After we have reviewed your application and verified eligibility for all required categories we will invite you to schedule an interview. Be prepared to bring your biggest supporter with you to meet the Director of EOP. During this interview, we will learn more about you and you will learn more about EOP.
STEP 4
Receive Your Decision Letter
You will receive a letter and an email with your acceptance or rejection letter regarding your EOP application.
If you have been accepted you must confirm your acceptance as soon as possible, but no later than July 11, by signing and submitting the EOP contract via email to eop@sunysullivan.edu.
*Admission to EOP will continue on a rolling basis. Because need exceeds capacity within the broad eligible populations, eligibility in itself does not provide entitlement to entry.
Step 5
Specify Date for Final Decision for Fall and Spring
If you have been accepted you must confirm you acceptance as soon as possible, but no later than the designated deadline notated below, by signing and submitting the EOP contract via email to eop@sunysullivan.edu.
Note: Deadline to submit decision for Spring start is January 2.
Note: Deadline to submit decision for Fall start is July 11.
