SUNY Sullivan Welcomes Marc Singer as New Vice President

Loch Sheldrake, NY —SUNY Sullivan is pleased to announce Marc Singer as the College’s new vice president for academic and student affairs. Singer is the former dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He has a strong background in distance learning, assessment of prior learning for credit, and pedagogy and has helped create work-ready programs that integrate student services using flexible delivery models—online, in- person, and hybrid.

“Community colleges play a crucial role in our communities, and this is the moment for us to shine and to take a leadership role in preparing the workforce and citizenry that we will need in the future,” said Singer. “SUNY Sullivan’s goals align with my own sense of mission, which comes from my own experience as a first-generation college student.”

Singer began his tenure at SUNY Sullivan Monday, February 14, and replaces Lawrence Weill who had been serving as interim vice president for academic and student affairs.

“We are very excited to have Marc Singer join the SUNY Sullivan family,” said SUNY Sullivan President Jay Quaintance. “Marc has worked to develop programs, services, and policies that make learning accessible, relevant, and meaningful. He has a strong history of collaboration with faculty, other deans, and internal stakeholders such as the marketing, enrollment, and student service units, as well as with external partners.”

Singer holds an EdD in Distance Education from Athabasca University, Alberta, Canada, a MPhil in American Studies from New York University, a MA in American Studies from the University of Alabama, and a BA in English/American Civilization from Oberlin College, Ohio.

“I am excited about coming to work at an institution that is so connected to its community, and so committed to making a difference in the lives of our students and the places they live,” said Singer. “I have found that sense of commitment in everyone I have met at SUNY Sullivan, and I look forward to joining them in the work they are doing.”
