Health Sciences Student Navigator (FT)

The Health Sciences Student Navigator will support Nursing students as well as those preparing to apply to the Nursing program, by serving as an advisor and mentor, connecting them with key SUNY Sullivan personnel who can best address educational, socioeconomic, and/or personal concerns to ensure student success. The Health Sciences Student Navigator will coordinate wrap-around support services, and maintain accurate, detailed reports of interventions. The incumbent in this position will work closely with the Director of Nursing, and support staff in the One Stop to support students throughout their tenure at the college.

This is a grant funded position and reports directly to the Director of the Nursing Programs.

This is a full time position with a salary range of $40,000-$42,000 per year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, RN is preferred.
  • A solid understanding of student diversity, retention issues and strategies as they relate to a student’s efforts to complete a rigorous educational program.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with faculty and staff from a variety of disciplines.
  • Experience in health sciences desired.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Health Sciences Student Navigator will:

  • Assist students to ensure they successfully complete the requirements of the Nursing program.
  • Identify at-risk students and develop interventions to retain these students. This will include working closely with academic advisors, One Stop personnel, county agencies, private partnerships and the Director of Nursing.
  • Maintain accurate records of retention and intervention efforts for each student and will communicate such efforts to the Retention Coordinator, the student’s academic advisor, the faculty member(s) involved and the Director of the Nursing Programs.
  • Maintain detail oriented records and oversee the equitable distribution of wrap around support resources developed to ensure retention of Nursing students. These records shall be reviewed with the Director of Nursing on a weekly basis.
