Established in 1962, SUNY Sullivan was the second university in US history to offer a specialized educational institute in hospitality.
Our program prepares students who are passionate about culinary service industries. Our students gain hands-on, real-world skills and knowledge to position themselves to perform locally and globally, with pride, enthusiasm and with levels of service that exceed expectations.

Students work alongside industry professionals in several bakeries, kitchens and the Grossinger Dining Room. Courses in Hospitality Purchasing, Cost Control, and Human Resources, as well as ServSafe and TIPS certifications prepare our graduates in all aspects of culinary business.

Associate in Occupational Science degree (AOS)
This two-year Associate in Occupational Science degree in Culinary Arts prepares the student for entry-level work in the culinary field. Courses focus on the theory, practice and hands-on work of culinary arts. Students work with industry professionals in several kitchens, bakeries and the Grossinger Dining Room. Students will also take courses in Hospitality Purchasing, Cost Control and Human Resources to round out their knowledge. They will receive ServSafe and TIPS certifications as part of their coursework.
Associate in Applied Science degree (AAS)
This two-year Associate in Applied Science degree program is designed to prepare students to be chefs in hotels, restaurants, and catering facilities. It includes a selection of Liberal Arts courses designed to facilitate transfer to a four-year institution.
Courses focus on the theory, practice and hands-on work of the culinary arts field.. Students will work with industry professionals in several kitchens, bakeries and the Grossinger Dining Room. Students will also take courses in Hospitality Purchasing, Cost Control and Human Resources to round out their knowledge. They receive ServSafe and TIPS certifications as part of their coursework.
Food Service is a one-year certificate program designed to provide students with the basic knowledge needed to work in volume-feeding establishments.
Each student will spend time learning the skills of food preparation, equipment use, presentation, and service for volume-feeding operations. Students enrolled in this program will also explore the background knowledge and techniques required for daily cash controls, safety and sanitation, employee job duties, and record keeping. They will also be informed of the many career opportunities available. Credits earned in this program can be transferred, without loss, to any of the Culinary Arts programs at SUNY Sullivan
For students interested in the hospitality and tourism industries, SUNY Sullivan’s Catskill Hospitality Institute offers an opportunity to learn the business. In SUNY Sullivan's Hospitality and Tourism program, classes in various areas of business, tourism, and hospitality services provide the students with all the necessary skills to succeed in their chosen field.
For student who may not be able to spend two years in college, our one-year Tourism Certificate may be an appealing option. Students who have completed degrees elsewhere and who wish to make a change in career plans may also benefit from this one-year program. A student could spend just one year at the College and receive a certificate in a career-oriented discipline, or elect to continue through the second year and receive an AAS degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Tourism.

FARM-TO-TABLE
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at SUNY Sullivan and that includes the Culinary Institute. Our Farm-to-Table education incorporates Hope Farm, a 3-acre organic farm initiated in collaboration with SUNY Sullivan’s Sustainability Team. The farm produces food or the culinary curriculum through sustainable farming techniques that improve and protect the integrity of the earth and its inhabitants.
THE SUNY SULLIVAN BAKERY CAFÉ
Open each Wednesday morning during the fall semester to provide Culinary Arts students with baking, entrepreneurial, and customer service experience. The café is open to the community.
CULINARY DINNERS
Held in the college’s Grossinger Dining Room and prepared by Culinary Arts students, these restaurant experiences allow hospitality-related business owners to enjoy a three-course meal while identifying potential employees.
