Culinary Students Recognized at Parents Night

Friends and family of this year’s crop of culinary students were treated to the fruits of the students’ labor at a dinner and awards ceremony on Thursday, May 4th in SUNY Sullivan’s Grossinger Dining Hall.


Interim President Jay Quaintance presents a $2,000 check to representatives from the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition.

Served with Fried Cherry Tomatoes and Pickled New Hope Farms Baby Carrots over a Bed of Microgreens

Mushroom Stuffed Breast of Chicken with Caesar Marinated Grilled Shrimp
Served with Basil Pesto Mashed Potatoes, Spring String Beans, and Roasted Red Peppers

At the conclusion of the dinner, a $2000 check representing the proceeds from the Italian Buffet Dinner organized by culinary students on March 16 was presented by Interim President Jay Quaintance to representatives from the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition, and a number of awards were presented to students.

Barbara Jones Memorial Award

For a mature (male or female) Sullivan County resident returning to school and majoring in Hospitality Field. (Good academic standing, 2.8 or better grade point average)

Willie Bruce

Hospitality Division Emeritus Chairman's Award

For a graduating student who has shown overall excellence in food preparation and dining room service.

Sienna Tate

Joseph McGready Award

For a graduating student who has persevered and earned an Associate degree from the Culinary Arts Division.

Christopher Sparagna

Hospitality Division Award

For an undergraduate full-time student showing promise in the area of Restaurant Management.

Robert Macagne

Mrs. Della J. Menges Memorial Award

For a returning mature student (male or female) who has persevered and succeeded academically (3.3 or better grade point average) and will be returning to SUNY Sullivan next semester or continuing his/her education at a four year school.

Kelly Sheftic

Baking Club Award

A second semester Pastry Arts student who exhibits the professional attitude and expertise needed for a career as a Professional Baker.

Brendan Imbarrato

The Société Culinaire Philanthropique Award

For a mature student with industry experience who has returned to college to complete a degree in the Hospitality Field.
