Assistant Director of Recruitment and Belonging/Chief Diversity Officer (FT)

The Assistant Director of Recruitment and Belonging/ Chief Diversity Officer reports to the Director of Human Resources and works in the HR/DEIB Department.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Position requires a bachelor’s degree in Diversity Education, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, or related field. Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • Professional work experience related to the position. Experience in a higher education setting preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee employee recruitment and provide science-informed guidance to search committees in collaboration with Director of Human Resources, including reviewing position descriptions, committee assignments, interview questions and best practices, onboarding, stay and exit surveys, performance evaluations, and other processes as assigned.
  • Develops strategies and program initiatives to achieve representation goals for historically underrepresented and/or vulnerable populations in cooperation with Director of Human Resources.
  • Create and chair a campus-wide Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging committee.
  • Create, through collaboration with appropriate leaders across all key campus functions, a DEIB campus plan and assessment metrics, ensure the plan is in compliance with the SUNY Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 25 Point Plan, College Strategic Plan, and other Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the DEIB campus plan and goals assessment.
  • Prepare reports on the DEIB annual initiatives, goals and outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson in communicating the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as well as sharing the DEIB Plan to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate periodic assessments related to Campus Climate data for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Engage in collegial, professional dialogue with faculty regarding the incorporation of learning materials and perspectives that are engaging for all members of a diverse student population to further enhance curriculum, academic rigor and the preparation of students to be successful in a global society.
  • Develop and implement trainings, seminars, lectures, events, and discussions including participating in Faculty Development Day.
  • Participate in orientation activities and Resident Assistant trainings as needed.
  • Serve as a mentor to students.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Director of Human Resources or the President.
