Assistant Director of Nursing Programs

Position Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the Director of Nursing, overseeing the program including regular review of the curriculum, managing the program’s master schedule, collaborating with the Learning Center and Admissions, recruiting and enrolling students, teaching within the program as needed, and assisting with development of new student cohorts.

This is a full-time, eleven month position and is a member of the Professional Staff Association (PSA). The Assistant Director of Nursing reports to the Director of Nursing Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree in Nursing in progress; Master’s in Nursing Education preferred.
• New York State Licensure or eligibility as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
• Familiarity with instructional technology desirable.
• Experience in Associate Degree Nursing education preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills as necessary for working with diverse groups of people with varying backgrounds. Must communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents.
• Ability to inspire achievement and leadership among students and staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Director of Nursing Programs with instructional resources, clinical affiliations; and representation within the college community and the community at large, faculty recruitment, hiring, and retention; and student advocacy.
• Coordination of the program’s master schedule.
• Teach either the freshmen or the senior lecture course each semester.
• Actively participate as a team member in the facilitation of interdepartmental relations, and support the in the operation, development, and profitability of the program.
• Coordinate services of instructors and support staff.
• Serve as an Academic Advisor working with students officially accepted into the program.
• Ensure that the Nursing Program maintains quality instruction in accordance with the State Education Department and Accreditation Commission for Education standards and criteria.
• Coordinate and oversee clinical adjuncts at all clinical sites.
• Conduct observations at clinical sites each month.
• Work with the Program Director, and the program’s Advisory Committee to assure the professional integrity and relevance of clinical courses within the curriculum.
