Goodman, Miret Named as First Soccer Head Coaches

Goodman and Miret will lead the college’s new women’s and men’s soccer programs, launching this fall

SUNY Sullivan has named Scott Goodman and Lenny Miret as the first head coaches of the college’s brand new intercollegiate soccer programs. Varsity men’s and women’s soccer  launch this fall.

Goodman will lead the women’s soccer program and Miret will head the men’s soccer program. Together they are building SUNY Sullivan’s newest athletics programs from the ground up. The programs will expand opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the collegiate level while pursuing a SUNY education close to home.

“These programs reflect our commitment to enriching student life and creating new opportunities for our student-athletes to excel both on the field and in the classroom,” said David Potash, president of SUNY Sullivan. “Coach Goodman and Coach Miret bring exactly the right experience and passion to the task.” Potash added that conversations with local high schools made soccer a priority for the college.

Goodman, a U.S. Soccer Federation-licensed coach with  nearly three decades of experience in soccer programs at the youth, collegiate, and professional levels. He is the Executive Director and a Head Coach of Hudson Valley Athletic Club, a nonprofit he helped establish, and serves as the Director and a Head Coach of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s Olympic Development Program North. In 2025, Goodman guided twelve players to the East Regional Camp and three of the players were selected to the ODP National Team.

“I can’t think of a better time to launch a women’s soccer program at SUNY Sullivan,” said Goodman. “We want to develop not just great players, but confident, driven young women who will thrive long after their time on the field.”

Miret, a lifelong soccer player, coach, and referee, brings experience in player development, training, officiating, and community engagement. He has led soccer training camps and clinics for middle and high school athletes, with a focus on technical skill, tactical awareness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. He previously served as stewardship coordinator at Catskill Mountainkeeper, where he managed volunteer programs, coordinated training and mentorship, and supported community engagement initiatives.

“Young players who grew up dreaming of playing at the collegiate level now have a home here at SUNY Sullivan,” said Miret. “We’re going to build something special.”
