Emergency Medical Technician

NYS EMT Original & Refresher Course

SUNY Sullivan's Emergency Medical Technician program prepares students for NYS DOH certification through a 13-week blended learning model. The course combines online classroom instruction with hands-on skills training and real-world clinical experience. Students complete evening sessions via Zoom, practice essential EMT skills during in-person labs at SUNY Sullivan, and gain practical experience through 24 hours of ride-along time with emergency medical services. Graduates enter a high-demand profession with strong career advancement opportunities in emergency medical services, fire departments, hospitals, and related healthcare fields.

What you will learn

  • Life-saving emergency care: CPR, AED use, airway management, and oxygen delivery
  • Patient assessment: Quickly identify life-threatening conditions and prioritize care
  • Trauma response: Control bleeding, manage shock, stabilize fractures and injuries
  • Medical emergencies: Treat strokes, seizures, diabetic crises, allergic reactions, and overdoses
  • Real-world readiness: Hands-on labs, scenario-based training, and field experience with EMS professionals

This program is ideal for:
