Vaccination Requirements

SUNY Sullivan will no longer require COVID-19 vaccines for students, with the exception of Health Science students in clinicals. State University of New York Chancellor John B. King, Jr. recently  announced that a COVID-19 vaccine will no longer be mandated for students to attend SUNY’s 64 campuses, effective for summer courses, which coincides with the official end of the national public health emergency by President Biden’s administration.
 
Moving forward, COVID-19 vaccinations will be strongly encouraged for students, which is consistent with other viruses including influenza and mpox. Faculty and staff will also be encouraged to stay up to date on vaccinations.
  
The decision came at the recommendation of SUNY’s Public Health Expert Advisory Committee, which is comprised of physicians and experts in infectious disease, public health, and neuroscience. The group was convened earlier this year to collect and review data on vaccinations, as well as trends in infection rates from newer variants. SUNY also worked with State health officials in making this decision.
 
The vast majority of SUNY students are New Yorkers, and to date approximately 77.5 percent of 18–25-year-olds and 79.8 percent of 26–34-year-olds across the state have completed their primary series vaccination. In addition, rates of infection continue to decline across the country according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
 
SUNY will continuously examine COVID-19 data and update its policy as needed based on local conditions or in response to requirements imposed by federal, state, or local authorities. Campuses will also continue to monitor local conditions carefully and make changes as appropriate.

New York State Public Health Law #2165 requires that ALL students born after January 1, 1957 and who are planning to register for six (6) or more campus-based credits must provide the following:

Proof of:

  • 2 measles vaccinations
  • 1 mumps vaccination
  • 1 rubella vaccination

OR

  • 2 MMR vaccinations

OR

  • Titers with results proving immunity

Please be advised that if you do not meet the immunization requirements (or obtain a waiver due to health or religious reasons), within 30 days of the beginning of the semester, you will be administratively withdrawn from the college. This means that you will forfeit ALL tuition and fees, will not receive any grades, and will not be permitted to register for ensuing study at the college until proof of immunizations are verified by our Health Services Office. DO NOT assume that immunization records are sent to the college with your academic transcript.

  • Your family physician
  • Last college attended

New York State Public Health Law #2167 makes it mandatory for ALL college students taking six (6) or more credits on campus to receive information about the meningitis vaccine and the disease.

ALL students MUST Fill out the Meningitis Response Form.

The Meningitis vaccine is not required to attend, but - whatever your decision - you must fill out the response form. A signature is necessary either declining the vaccine AND/OR providing proof of receiving the meningitis vaccine.

All Culinary, Early Childhood, Respiratory, Medical Assistant & Nursing Students

All culinary, early childhood, respiratory, medical assistant, and nursing students are required to have a test for tuberculosis, known as a Mantoux or PPD, with results, within the last six months. They are also required to have a tetanus vaccine, with proof, within the last 10 years.
