Sullivan’s Men’s and Women’s Teams are Both Seeded #1 in This Weekend’s NJCAA Region 15 Championship Tournaments

Loch Sheldrake, NY — The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 15 Executive Committee this week named SUNY Sullivan Women’s Basketball freshman center Deivejon Harris its Division II Women’s Basketball Most Outstanding Player and Men’s Basketball sophomore guard Kareem Welch as the Division II Men’s Basketball Most Outstanding Player.

The NJCAA also named WelchJalen Renneau, and Jarrell White as Region 15 Men’s Basketball First Team All-Stars, Jay Alvarez as a Men’s Basketball Second Team All-Star, and HarrisAnise Perry, and Gabrielle Jeridore as Region 15 Women’s Basketball First Team All-Stars. In addition, Generals Women’s player Keyani Sidberry and Men’s player Sam DeSouza were named to NJCAA’s Region 15 Women’s and Men’s All Sportsman Teams, respectively.

“I am extremely proud of the success of our men’s and women’s basketball programs this past year as evidenced by the post season awards that were handed out this past Sunday,” said SUNY Sullivan Director of Athletics & Recreation and Dean of Student Development Services Chris DePew. “It is a true testament to the hard work, dedication and determination of my coaching staff and players despite difficult circumstances. COVID continues to play a large role in how we do business, yet despite that difficulty, our programs have succeeded at the championship level they left off in March of 2020. I couldn’t be happier with our progress and look forward to both teams having the opportunity to compete in the National Championship Tournaments in mid-March.”

Harris and Welch will lead their teams into the NJCAA Region 15 Championship Tournaments, which takes place at Westchester Community College** this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, February 26–27. The tournament schedule is as follows:
