SUNY Sullivan Offering Six-Week Certified First Responder (CFR) Original Course This Summer, Beginning June 1

Respond to Calls and Provide Initial Care in Medical and Trauma Emergencies

SUNY Sullivan is offering a six-week Certified First Responder (CFR) Original Course this summer, beginning June 1. For more information, contact Bridget Schiffer at bschiffer@sunysullivan.edu or call (845) 434 5750, x4242.

Certified First Responders (CFR) assess the safety at the scene, the extent and nature of injury or illness, and communicate with the dispatcher to request additional assistance or additional services. SUNY Sullivan’s Certified First Responder course provides a hands-on, interactive, and engaging learning experience. Students practice skills through simulated scenarios, including how to monitor vital signs, perform CPR, control bleeding, immobilize a patient, and properly use Basic Life Support equipment. Our instructors are committed to each student’s success. Students will be prepared to take the New York State Department of Health Certified First Responder practical and written certification exams.

The CFR Original course meets two nights per week (different nights), from 7–10 pm and Saturdays from 8am–2 pm on the SUNY Sullivan campus. All on-campus students must be FULLY vaccinated and boosted. To register for the course, students must provide proof of vaccination and booster.

The cost of tuition for the CFR Original course is $350. Payment is due in full prior to the start of the course. Exam fees and text materials are the student’s responsibility. If a student is sponsored by a qualifying agency, upon passing the NYS exam and obtaining their certification, the agency may request reimbursement for a portion of the tuition through NYS Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. Sponsors will need to submit the NYS Dept. of Health 3312 verification form.
