Clement Named SUNY Sullivan Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach

SUNY Sullivan Dean of Student Development Services and Director of Athletics Christopher DePew has announced that Simon Clement, long time Generals Assistant Coach, has been named SUNY Sullivan’s Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach for the 2023-24 season.

“Coach Clement has been our top assistant since our transition to the NJCAA DII scholarship level in 2018 and brings wealth of knowledge to the position,” said DePew. “Not only does he have experience here at Sullivan with our longstanding tradition of excellence, he also brings NCAA DI experience from his time as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University at Albany where he worked under legendary UAlbany Head Coach Will Brown, who also started his Head Coaching career here at SUNY Sullivan.”

The Men’s Generals Basketball team has won the last five NJCAA Region XV DII Titles, including two East District Championships and an appearance in the 2022 NJCAA National DII Final Four.

“Our continued success both on the court and in the classroom has helped us move more than 100 student/athletes over the years to NCAA and NAIA scholarship opportunities, said DePew. “I have every confidence that Coach Clement will continue this longstanding tradition and guide our program to yet another unforgettable season.”

Clement, who is also an assistant business professor at the Catskill Hospitality Institute at SUNY Sullivan, has coached and worked in Athletics for over a decade. He played collegiate basketball at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY, for one season and at Johnson State College in Johnson, VT, for two seasons. Clement earned his BA from Johnson State College and his MBA from SUNY Albany.

Clement succeeds former Head Coach/Assistant Athletic Director Brent Wilson, who recently accepted the Director of Athletics position at Hostos Community College in the Bronx, NY.

“I wish Brent all of the very best in his new venture”, said DePew, “I would like to thank him for keeping our program at the level we have come to expect, and for assisting me in the transition of the program from the NJCAA DIII to DII level in 2018, where we have made an immediate impact as a NJCAA national power.”
