SUNY Sullivan Board of Trustees Welcomes Fantashia Lovejoy as Student Trustee

At their September 21 meeting, the SUNY Sullivan Board of Trustees welcomed Fantashia Lovejoy to the Board as the 2023-24 Student Trustee.

A psychology major from Mount Vernon, NY, Lovejoy lives on campus and is a resident assistant in the College’s Lazarus I. Levine Residence Hall. She is an active student on campus and also serves as president of the Black Student Union and is a member of the Crochet and Psychology clubs. As the student trustee, Lovejoy is a voting member of the Board of Trustees and serves in working group meetings. She was sworn into her new role in late August by Sullivan County Clerk Russell Reeves.

“I feel excited to represent students on the Board of Trustees,” said Lovejoy, who said the position is like nothing she’s ever done, but hopes she can help the Board better understand students. “I feel as if RA training helped me with getting comfortable having a high position like student trustee. I really can’t wait to advocate for students, and I hope to make an impact before I graduate because at least one change can be impactful.”

Lovejoy plans to continue her psychology studies and earn a bachelor’s degree at an undecided SUNY school.

Coordinator of Student Activities Jamie Brooks said Lovejoy is a dynamic student and peer leader who, as a member of the Residence Staff, will bring a unique perspective to the Board.

“Fantashia is very responsible and wanted to grow her people skills. She is able to defuse conflicts and is an asset as a member of the Residence Staff,” said Brooks, who said that Lovejoy has a perspective that past student trustees haven’t had because she lives on campus. “Working with Fantashia, you will see how open-minded she is. She listens to others’ ideas and contemplates solutions that work for everyone. She is a motivator and good communicator.”
